Quinton van der Burgh initiated his entrenchment in South African business lore by establishing Voda-Tella International at the mere age of 22.

Based in London at the time, the organisation primarily focused on the supply and distribution of telecommunication services and devices, but Voda-Tella International would go on to operate in twelve countries.

With an eye for marketing and an extensive understanding of mergers and acquisitions, Quinton founded ‘Quinton van der Burgh Investments’ which has, over the years, invested in an array of industries ranging across the Fin-Tech, Property Development, Aviation, Media and Hospitality sectors and has more recently focused the bulk of his investments in commodities, including the mining, production and distribution of coal and metal products throughout Southern Africa. In the seventeen years in which Quinton has operated in the mining sector, his expertise have extended and compounded to encompass vast insight into even the minutiae of the mining process in addition to the geological and legal aspects that come along with it. This knowledge is critical in Quiton’s hands-on approach that ensures the success of his endeavours.

In 2020, Quinton rebranded and consolidated his mining operations and related services under the banner of Q Global Commodities (“QGC”) which has quickly established itself as one of Africa’s largest privately-owned mining initiatives, boasting self-sustaining subsidiaries in logistics, beneficiation, and plant-hire.

Through his portfolio of subsidiaries, he has successfully embarked on over forty projects including the fulfilment of numerous mining rights and has overseen the movement of over eighty million tons of coal through the numerous links in the supply chain, from extraction to the delivery at sidings. In the past financial year alone, he delivered more than 7 million tons of various grades of coal to the international and domestic markets.

“I’m not just wanting to change someone’s life for a day or a month, I truly want to change their lives for life!”

Often quoted: “I’m not just wanting to change someone’s life for a day or a month, I truly want to change their lives for life!”, Quinton has extended his charitable undertakings to include the #ActOfGenerosity, an initiative that invites fellow South Africans to share their respective challenges and then selects applicants who are then assisted with the support they need to get their lives back on track, regardless of the nature of the assistance required. From settling credit card debt to paying for necessary medical operations or schooling, he has ensured that the selected candidates’ dignity and standing in society were restored.

The journey doesn’t end here as Quinton has an eye on redefining the South African mining industry with strategic partnerships focused on historically disadvantaged aspirants in the mining sector. Quinton strives to bring substance to the concept of Black Economic Empowerment.

“I’ve accomplished a lot in my life, and I feel that it is my responsibility to give back to the people who have helped me get to where I am today.”
